Let\u2019s quickly go to slide number 1 to show the objectives of today!\u201d (&#8230;.) \u201cBefore we start, let\u2019s look at how the dictionary defines communication\u201d. (voice over:) \u201cIt was at this moment, the trainer had lost half of the audience\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We have seen so many training sessions start like this, it\u2019s almost a crime against the noble training profession. Painful on so many different levels:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It\u2019s content driven, not participant driven. Participants are people of flesh and blood, who come into the training with expectations, emotions, pressure, pain, families, ailments, etc. etc. You can\u2019t just ignore that and point at slide number 1! Why are they here? How do they feel about this topic? What do they know already?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sending info at people won\u2019t make them learn! Remember the old saying: \u201ccommunicated does not mean understood\u201d. There are so many different ways you can approach the topic of \u201ccommunication training\u201d! How about a group discussion? How about role play? How about an exercise? How about a game? How about some case studies?\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>WIIFM<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> needs to be clear from the start, or adult learners will just tune out (at best), or get out (at worst). \u201cIf you cannot make clear <\/span><b>W<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hat\u2019s <\/span><b>I<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">n <\/span><b>I<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">t <\/span><b>F<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or <\/span><b>M<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">e, my mind will find something better to do\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Still, so many trainers start designing a training by opening PowerPoint; so many senior managers ask for \u201cthe training material\u201d and expect to see a PowerPoint, and even participants get nervous when they enter the room and the projector is <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">not<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> on full blast.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A proper training company (like <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/no-nonsense.training\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">no-nonsense.training<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) knows that a presentation can be a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">part of<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a training, but it shouldn\u2019t be the main ingredient.
